What's Up Wednesday - A Conversation about Curating Digital Collections Online
Join us for a 45-minute conversation about the theories and thoughts about building a digital collection. We will explore questions about what and what not to digitize, the importance of provenance, copyright issues, and how to determine whether it adds value to the vast number of collections out there in the digital universe. We will also look at and evaluate examples of well-curated collections versus a lot of “space junk” filing a void, all from the Indiana State Library’s Digital Collections and Hosted Collections. (Please note: this program will not focus on fund-raising nor the actual building of a digital collection.)
Biography:
Since January 2017, Chris Marshall has been the digital collections coordinator for the Indiana Division at the Indiana State Library and recently taken on the task of overseeing Indiana Memory. He’s previously held positions at Conner Prairie, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, the Indiana State Museum, and the Indianapolis Public Library (IndyPL) where he was in charge of the Indianapolis-Special Collections Room.
Brittany Kropf has been a Rare Books and Manuscripts Librarian at the Indiana State Library since 2015. At that time, she took responsibility for the administration of the library’s own digital collections within Indiana Memory, which required developing digitization policies, guidelines, and workflows; training staff and volunteers; and creating the ISL Digital Collections public interface. She also serves as the digital collections coordinator for the Manuscripts Division.
