What's Up Wednesday: Invisible Faces Online

According to the Indiana Department of Education, human trafficking is a "crime involving the exploitation of someone for the purpose of compelled labor or a commercial sex act through the use of force, fraud or coercion." It occurs in every state, including Indiana. In this webinar, Dr. Bridgette Spann-Edwards will ask, "Would you be able to identify if someone is involved in human trafficking, either as the trafficker or the victim?" It might seem like these people are invisible faces in the crowd, but there are signs to look for and they might be coming through your libraries on a daily basis. This webinar will cover the definition of human trafficking and its forms, the risks, the language, unacknowledged victims, identification and myths.

Presenter: Dr. Bridgette Spann-Edwards

Spann-Edwards was born in Stuttgart, Germany, and raised in East Chicago, Indiana. She graduated from Governor State University with a Bachelor of Health Sciences and a Master of Social Work. She continued her education at Tulane University, where she received her Doctor of Social Work. She has also been employed at Governor State University as a social work professor since 2012.
